The first way philanthropic support helps our program is by providing the resources needed to travel to elite national level competitions. In addition, support allows our scholar-athletes to return to campus early from breaks and remain on campus beyond the academic semester as we prepare for NCAA Nationals and USA Championships. Finally, we could not be more thrilled to have the opportunity to compete and host competitions in our new track and field complex, as part of the "Davidson Athletics: The Next Step" effort.Â
Â
What are some key ways you see your program advancing in the next 1, 2, 5 years? With the opening of the new track and field complex, we will be able to host meets and invite alums and fans to watch us compete and interact with scholar-athletes and coaches Having the new facility also allows us to advance our throws program, which is already underway with the 2024 recruiting class. We are also looking to host a few high-level high school meets. Long term, we are looking to be in position to compete for conference titles and consistently have individuals compete at the NCAA National Championship.Â
Â
What do you see in our scholar-athletes every day that makes an investment in them worthwhile?
The level of drive and focus on success our scholar-athletes have is, in and of itself, worth investing in. The athletes, in combination with the coaches, are always looking to innovate and optimize ways to be successful.
Â
What are you most excited about when you think about the future of your program?
When I think about the future of the program, I always think about recruits. We have a young, talented group on our current roster, and we are bringing in a group of scholar-athletes that will help us reach our goals as a program. I am also looking forward to inviting our current athletes back to alumni events to show them the success they created during their time at Davidson.Â
Â
"Athletics Done Right:" What does that mean to you?
It means we are going to do everything we can do to give scholar-athletes an opportunity to be successful at the highest level. It means we care about athletes being great students when they are at Davidson and great ambassadors after they leave. It means we care about program and school values as much as we care about winning.Â
