Golf Head Coach Tim Straub on Why Give, Why Now

Playing on the golf team was a great experience that kept me anchored at Davidson. College can be a huge time management challenge, but golf gave me a skill to focus on and improve while I studied. Through golf, I built incredible friendships and found my purpose at Davidson, and I want to make sure other young men get that same opportunity. It's been so meaningful to support the team as they continue to grow and succeed.

Can you share an example of one or two ways philanthropic support has made your program stronger recently?
Our golf alumni have been so generous, from raising funds for our state-of-the-art golf house to the transformational gift from Steve MacMillan '85 and Jennifer MacMillan that fully endowed scholarships for our program. These gifts have helped us win four A-10 Championships in the past five years and compete on a national level.

What are some key ways you see your program advancing in the next 1, 2, 5 years?In the next few years, I see our program continuing to compete for A-10 titles and gain even more traction competing against the best golf teams in the country.

What do you see in our scholar-athletes every day that makes an investment in them worthwhile?
Every day, I am amazed at the dedication and time commitment of our golfers. Success as a scholar-athlete at the Division I level takes a huge commitment of time, focus and dedication, not only on the golf course but also in the classroom.

What are you most excited about when you think about the future of your program?
I am most excited to continue to foster the momentum our golf program has developed recently. The future is very bright.

"Athletics Done Right:" What does that mean to you?Athletics Done Right" to me means Davidson scholar-athletes don't cut corners or make excuses. They do the work in the classroom and in the athletic arena with the goal of reaching their full potential every day
