Davidson Divers Enter NCAA Zones Sunday

Three Davidson divers will compete in the 2024 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships, which begin Sunday.

Wildcats James Gourlay, Elle Jacobsen and Annica Valmassei will compete in the postseason event at the Gabrielsen Natatorium, home of the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Ga.

"For the group that made it to Zones, I am excited to see how well they stack up against some of the best divers in the Southeastern Conference, ACC and others," said coach Greg Ferrucci. "Competing against divers of that caliber is a great challenge, as well as an opportunity to learn and grow."

Jacobsen, a freshman, and Valmassei, a junior, will each compete in the women's 1-meter and 3M competitions, while Gourlay, a sophomore, will compete in the men's 3M.

Jacobsen and Valmassei will compete in the 1M at 2 p.m. Sunday and in the 3M at 3:15 p.m. Monday. Valmassei earned silver in both events at the Atlantic 10 Championships last month, while Jacobsen was fourth in the 3M. Gourlay will compete in the 3M on Tuesday at 11 a.m. He was eighth in the event at A-10s.

Approximately 50 divers enter the prelims in each event, with the top 18 per event advancing to finals.
