LAST TIME OUT...
The Davidson women's basketball team opened the season in fine fashion, earning a nail-biting 57-56 victory over mid-major powerhouse Florida Gulf Coast University. The Wildcats held a traditionally sharp shooting Eagles squad, who a season ago was the sixth ranked 3-point shooting team in the nation, to just a 35.1 shooting percentage beyond the arc with only two made threes.
Millie Prior (18), Katie Donovan (15) and Kyra Bruyndoncx (10) led the team in scoring while Mallorie Haines tallied eight points including the 3-pointer to finalize the Wildcats' scoring and Issy Morgan dished out a team-best four assists.
MIGHTY MILLIE...
Arguably one of the conferences best defensive players, Prior lived up to the hype in the season opener grabbing seven rebounds and making four blocks over the 'Cats win against FGCU. Prior, after one contest, is ninth in all Division I in blocks per game and second within the Atlantic 10 with her four. As a team, Prior helped Davidson land fifth in DI currently in blocks per game with 9.0.
NEWCOMER NUMBERS...
Six new faces made their way into the line up at some point in Tuesdays contest against the Eagles. Bruyndoncx earned a spot in the starting lineup playing 26 minutes and tallying 10 points, three rebounds, one assist and one block. University of Pittsburgh transfer Jasmine Timmerson and true freshmen Candice Lienafa each saw 16 minutes of action with Lienafa scoring four points and Timmerson grabbing three boards and one steal.
Additionally, Sienna Dauer, Edina Strausz and Emilie Bessell all made their debuts for the Wildcats against FGCU.
NON-CON REFRESHER...
Davidson got off to a red hot start last season, posting a 12-1 record to open the year, including two wins over ACC opponents (Wake Forest and Duke) as well as the first-ever win over a ranked team [In mid-November the 'Cats traveled to Cameron Indoor Stadium and earned a 69-62 win over Duke, which was receiving votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and was No. 22 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Poll]. The noteworthy win over Duke sparked a 10-game winning streak for Davidson, which was the program's longest in 29 years.
PRESEASON POLL...
The 'Cats were tabbed to finish fourth, receiving one first-place vote in the Atlantic 10 this season, while Charlise Dunn was named to the Preseason All-Conference Second Team.
LOOKING AHEAD...
The 2024-25 season features 12 non-conference games (5 Home, 7 Away) and 18 Atlantic 10 contests. All 18 A-10 home games will be streamed with ESPN+ and available on TV or digitally.
