
‘Cats Fall in Opening Round of Fort Myers Tip-off to Virginia Tech

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Davidson fell to Virginia Tech, 79-50, in the opening round of the Fort Myers Tip-off Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats, who fall to 3-4 on the season, will take on Belmont tomorrow at 5 p.m. inside Suncoast Credit Union Arena.
Despite the setback, Candice Lienafa led Davidson with 12 points, scoring seven of the 12 in the final quarter of the contest. Former Hokie Charlise Dunn tallied 11 points for the Wildcats while Katie Donovan brought in a roster-high five rebounds.
Virginia Tech (6-1) shot 49.1 percent from the floor, including a 5-of-10 effort from behind the 3-point line.
After an Issy Morgan triple cut the deficit to 9-6 early, the Hokies closed the opening quarter on a 14-0 run to grab control.
Virginia Tech will play Michigan in tomorrow's Championship game.
