NORFOLK, Va. — Davidson swimmers won 16 events and the Wildcat women's team emerged with a team victory as well at Saturday's dual meet at Old Dominion.
With 11 event wins and many 1-2 finishes, the Davidson women topped ODU 173-89, while the Wildcat men were edged 142-120 in a tight contest.
"We're really impressed by both teams today," said Davidson coach John Young. "The women took control of the energy and the score early and enjoyed a big win. The men's meet was close and exciting throughout, with five lead changes. ODU deserves credit for winning this one, especially given the way our men performed."
Anna Newman was a three-event winner, taking first in the 100 breast (1:06.07), 200 breast (2:24.28) and 200 IM (2:08.87). Nora Ratmeyer also swam to multiple wins, touching first in the 100 back (59.47) and 100 fly (58.56). Ginny Thorsen (1,000 free, 10:38.72), Addison Constantinides (200 free, 1:56.24), Cynthia Huang (200 fly, 2:12.04), Addy Donaldson (50 free, 24.39) and Brooke Mahoney (500 free, 5:13.65) also earned first-place points. Mahoney, Thorsen, Constantinides and Donaldson won the 400 free relay in 3:35.90.
Additionally, multiple Wildcats finished ahead of their ODU competitors, including Rani Greer (2nd, 500 free and 1,000 free), Mahoney (2nd, 200 free), Lea Nader (2nd, 200 fly), Huang (2nd, 200 IM), Kelsa Dator (2nd, 200 breast) and Maggie McCabe (2nd, 100 breast; 3rd, 200 breast).
Dylan Felt led the Davidson men, swimming out front in the 100 free (45.14) and 1,000 free (9:28.08). Fletcher Smith led a 1-2-3 Wildcat finish in the 200 fly (1:50.67), complemented by Robby Votta and Miles Charles, and Jeremy Kemp won the 200 back (1:52.19), with Liam McDonough securing a 1-2 Davidson finish.
