DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's tennis team earned their second win in three days with a 4-2 non-conference victory over Appalachian State on Sunday.
"We didn't have the strongest start in doubles but never backed down and pulled out the point," said head coach Susanne Depka. "In singles we stayed mentally tough and never let up even if we had tough first sets. We are getting much stronger mentally and it's showing."
The day began with a doubles victory from the No. 1 duo Emma Heiderscheit and Kavya Patel. The pairing move to 2-0 to start of the year in the top spot of doubles action following the 6-2 win.
With the Mountaineers taking the win in the second doubles spot, Daniela Porges and Charlotte Calderwood in the No. 3 spot pulled out a heroic 7-6 win after pulling out a 7-2 tiebreaker victory, securing the doubles point for the Wildcats.
Bryson Langford, up 5-0 in the No. 5 spot saw her opponent retire to tack on another Davidson point while in the fourth spot, Porges cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
The Mountaineers tallied two points via victories in the first and third spots. However, Savanna Kollock in the No. 2 position closed the door on Appalachian State down the stretch notching a 6-4, 6-3 match win to clinch the fourth team point for the Wildcats.
Among the singles action, Kollock, Porges and Langford all moved to 2-0 on the season.
