CEDARVILLE, Ohio. – Davidson's Frances Whitworth continued her remarkable senior campaign Saturday morning, with a third-place finish at the 2023 Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country Championships hosted by the University of Dayton.

A native of nearby Winston-Salem, Whitworth finished the Elvin R. King 6k course in a personal-record 21:05.29, to earn all-conference honors. In addition, her showing is the second highest (Sarah Sears – 2nd | 2017) by a Wildcat in the conference meet, since joining the league prior to the 2014 season.

"It has been so exciting to see the past four years of hard work come together this season and especially today for an awesome result," Whitworth said. "I knew going into the race I could put together a good finish, but I'm really proud of myself for deciding to go for it and seeing that choice pay off."

"Frannie continues to impress me as she gets better each and every week," said Director of Cross Country / Track & Field Jen Straub."

Whitworth's performance was just two seconds behind runner-up Abby Carter (Dayton) and 15 ticks behind individual champion Lauren Tunnell (VCU).

For the fourth straight outing, Anne Berquist set a new personal best as the junior clocked in at 21:49.69 to place 19th out of 141 competitors.

Like their teammates, Molly Sullivan (22:17.88) and Hallie Stewart (22:43.38) turned in solid runs for the 'Cats, topping their previous best times to finish in the top half of the field.

"I'm very happy with the way we competed today. We had a lot of adversity this season and these six athletes showed up and ran tough! Anne, Molly, and Hallie placed significantly higher than last year and had big PR's," added Straub.

Jocelyn Millican and Isabella Godoy also competed for Davidson this weekend as the first years finished their championship debuts in 23:25.47 and 23:27.95, respectively.

"Freshmen Joc and Bella came through as I'm very proud of every member of this team," commented Straub.

As a team, Davidson finished in the middle of the 15-team field with a total of 192 points.

Loyola (Ill.) claimed the team title for the second consecutive season, placing three runners inside the Top-10.
