'Cats Drop Charleston Classic Opener; Face South Carolina Friday

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- College of Charleston's backcourt duo of Dalton Bolon and Ryan Larson scored 21 points each and combined for 10 3-pointers as the Cougars defeated Davidson, 89-66, on day one of the Charleston Classic Thursday inside TD Arena.
The Wildcats, who will play South Carolina Friday evening at 7:30 p.m., drop their first contest of the season falling to 3-1.
Despite the setback, Davidson's Sam Mennenga and Grant Huffman hit new career-highs with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Connor Kochera also scored in double figures for the 'Cats with 12.
Charleston (3-1), which pulled down 15 offensive rebounds and turned 12 miscues into 15 points in the first 20 minutes, carried a 44-30 lead into the break.
The Cougars finished with a 42-32 advantage on the glass, while getting 44 points from their bench.
After Davidson used a 17-2 streak capped by a David Skogman triple to cut the deficit to 54-51 with 11:53 to play, Charleston responded with another lengthy spurt to put the game out of reach.
