KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – Davidson's Owen Drometer finished fifth out of 88 runners to lead the Wildcats to a third-place showing at the VertCross Invitational hosted by High Point University Friday afternoon.
A senior from Medfield, Mass., Drometer ran the 8k course in 24:48.1, posting the third-best time of competitors counting towards the team's final total.
"Overall we had a solid team performance," said Director of Men's Cross Country Renny Waldron. "It was great to see Owen mixing it up in the front, and this was a breakout race for Graham. While we aren't at full strength right now, the guys are seeing that as an opportunity to step up and they are working hard. We will be ready for conference in two weeks."
Junior Joe dos Reis (25:21.3) also finished in the Top-10, while Graham Breiter (25:37.8) crossed the finish line in 14th for Davidson, which recorded 62 points, 17 back of the host Panthers (45) and 36 behind team champion East Tennessee State (26).
Nathan Stewart (26:20.4 | 24th), Ben Gordon Sniffen (26:35.4 | 28th) and Max Pearson (28:12.2 | 58th) also competed for the Wildcats in their final regular season run.
Evan Guzman, one of six ETSU runners to finish in the Top-15, claimed the individual title with a time of 24:28.0.
