Davidson Drops 5-2 Decision to Radford

RADFORD, Va. -- Despite solid singles showings from Maxwell Kachkarov and Camden Mazzoni, the Davidson men's tennis team couldn't overcome Radford on Sunday afternoon, as the Wildcats ultimately fell 5-2 on the road.Â
While Sam Kavarana and Mazzoni had an outstanding effort on the third court of the doubles matches, losses on courts one and two put the 'Cats behind 1-0 early. In the No. 3 slot, Kavarana and Mazzoni won a 7-6 set after forcing a tiebreaker set, and pulling out a 7-4 win.Â
Mazzoni carried his momentum into the singles play, as the senior defeated Radford's Raptis in three sets, despite dropping the first. From court four, Mazzoni fell behind 3-6, but came out on top in sets two and three, 7-5 and 1-0.Â
Rookie Kachkarov also battled through three sets, after he lost the first 1-6. The New York native battled back from the deficit to win set two 6-3 and won the game-defining set in a 10-8 tiebreak.
Despite their efforts, the Wildcats fell in the subsequent singles matches, as Radford took home a 5-2 win.
The 'Cats will have one more regular season tuneup before the Atlantic 10 tournament, next Saturday at Charlotte.Â
