DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson scored on four straight possessions down the stretch to answer a Saint Joseph's challenge and emerge with an 80-66 win Tuesday night in Belk Arena.
With the win, the 'Cats improve to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in A-10 play.
The Wildcats scored nine unanswered points to take the lead for good after the Hawks pulled to within 61-58 with 7:27 to play.
In all, the Wildcats scored 16 of the game's next 20 points, and the Hawks (1-9, 0-4 A-10) struggled in the closing minutes, connecting on just one of their final 13 shots.
Kellan Grady scored a game-best 21 points to lead five Wildcats in double figures. Sam Mennenga chipped in with 15 points and a team-high nine boards, as Davidson held a 43-26 rebounding advantage.
Hyunjung Lee added 14 points, while Luka Brajkovic scored 12 and Michael Jones 11 for the 'Cats, who shot 52 percent and canned 14 3-pointers.
After finding itself in an early 19-9 deficit, Davidson started to find its rhythm against the Hawks' zone and closed the first period on a 28-7 run to take a 37-26 lead into the break. The Wildcats' lead peaked at 46-28 with 18:12 to play, following a Carter Collins trey.
Jack Forrest and Taylor Funk scored 19 apiece to lead the Hawks.
