Volleyball Falls 3-2 at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Four Wildcats had double-digit kills and there were career-highs all around, but it wasn't enough Tuesday night as the Davidson volleyball team fell 3-2 to rival Charlotte on the road.

The loss evens the Wildcats' record at 5-5.

Hattie Rodriguez, Emma McLaughlin, Ellie Crosley and Madeline Wynn combined for 60 kills, with each posting career-highs, and setter Sydney Champaigne had a career-best 59 assists. Josie Treadwell added a career-high 32 digs.

After the teams alternated wins through four sets, Charlotte scored seven of the first eight points in the decisive fifth and posted a 15-13 victory to seal it.

McLaughlin, who finished with 17 kills, had seven in the first set as Davidson hit .340 and posted a 25-22 win. Rodriguez had 18 kills, while Crosley finished with 15 and Wynn with 10.

Charlotte evened the match with its own 25-22 win in the second before the Wildcats put themselves in position for a match win with a 25-21 victory in the third. The 49ers, however, forced a fifth set with a 26-24 win in the fourth.

Up Next
Davidson will host the Wildcat Classic Friday and Saturday in Belk Arena. Jacksonville, Wofford and High Point are set to visit.
