DAVIDSON — Davidson volleyball coach Chris Willis liked the way his team battled Friday night as the Wildcat Classic opened in Belk Arena, but the Wildcats fell 3-1 to Jacksonville in their first of three weekend matches.
After the Dolphins won the first two sets, Davidson forced a fourth set that ended with a 34-32 Jacksonville victory as both teams refused to give in.
"I was really proud of our ability to mentally reset, stay in the game and continue to battle," said Willis. "Jacksonville did a great job of making us uncomfortable and we need to respond quicker and make changes based on that."
Davidson (5-6) found its groove in the third set and earned a 26-24 victory to extend the match.
Ellie Crosley led Davidson with 13 kills, while Madeline Wynn had 11. Sydney Champaigne had 46 assists, and Elise Edman and Josie Treadwell had 13 digs apiece.
"Every day, our hope is we learn and get better," said Willis. "Hopefully, we can apply what we learned tonight."
Friday's Other Score
High Point 3, Wofford 0
