SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – In addition to scoring his 1,000th career point and pouring in a game-high 27 points, Jon Axel Gudmundsson hit a pair of free throws with five seconds left to lift Davidson over Saint Louis, 54-53, Saturday at Chaifetz Arena.
Off to their best start in A-10 play since joining the league in 2014, the Wildcats improve to 15-5 overall and 6-1 in the conference.
After Dion Wiley drilled a 3-pointer from the corner to put the Billikens up, 53-52, with 14 seconds to play, Gudmundsson was fouled following a Wildcat timeout, and converted both ends of the one-and-one opportunity.
Jordan Goodwin drew a foul of his own with .4 seconds left on an offensive rebound, but missed both.
Gudmundsson, who finished 9-of-12 from the floor and made all six of his attempts at the line, became the 49th Wildcat to score 1,000 points in his Davidson career.
In a game that featured 9 ties and 18 lead changes, the Wildcats led for almost 27 minutes, while handing the Billikens their first home loss of the season.
Davidson, which has the top scoring defense in league play, held Saint Louis (14-6, 5-2 A-10) to just 34.7 percent overall and just 6-of-22 from behind the arc.
Hasahn French paced the Billikens with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Goodwin added 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
Trailing 14-13, Davidson reeled off seven straight highlighted by treys from Kellan Grady and Luke Frampton, before going to the half up, 24-21.
Frampton scored all nine of his points in the first 20 minutes to go along with a personal-best 4 steals.
Up Next
Davidson will continue its stretch of six out of nine away from home with a 7 p.m. nationally-televised (ESPN2) contest at St. Bonaventure Friday.
