WASHINGTON, D.C.  —
The Davidson men's tennis team traveled up to the nation's capital this weekend and scored a pair of 5-2 Atlantic 10 wins over George Mason and George Washington to push their winning streak to six straight on the season.

Davidson moved to 12-4 overall and remained perfect in A-10 play at 4-0. This is the fourth consecutive year with at least a six-match win streak. The Wildcats also improved to 6-1 all-time vs. the Patriots (5-9, 0-3 A-10) and 2-0 vs. GW (2-16, 1-2 A-10).

"Great weekend for the guys," said head coach Drew Barrett, who collected his 120th and 121st career wins at Davidson. "The seniors carried a heavy load on Sunday and I'm very proud of their efforts."

All four of the Wildcats' seniors pulled out singles wins against the Colonials to help seal up the team win. The No. 1 and 2 duo of Artem Khrapko and Shamael Chaudhry grinded out strong wins. Khrapko, who had his eight-match win streak halted Saturday, split a pair of tie-breakers before securing a 6-4 third-set win. He is just one win away from 50 for his career.

Chaudhry won his fifth straight match by also pulling out a three-setter in a 6-7, 6-1, 7-5 decision. He is tied with Khrapko with 11 singles wins on the year.

Seniors David Hager and Jack Riazzi cruised in their matches at No. 5 and 6 positions, respectively. Hager impressed again by recording a 6-0, 6-2 win to move to 8-6 on the season, while scoring his 48th career win overall. He remained perfect with Chaudhry in A-10 matches at 4-0.

Riazzi continued his great senior season by taking a 6-2, 6-0 victory and collecting his 10th win in 12 matches.

Davidson took a 1-0 lead with doubles wins by Axel Fries and Khrapko (6-2) and No. 1, and Riazzi and Yash Parikh (6-2) at No. 3. Fries and Khrapko are a team-best 10-4 (4-0 A-10) on the season and riding a six-match win streak.

In Saturday's win vs. George Mason, the doubles point was won for the fourth straight match by the 'Cats after they took wins of 6-4 and 6-2 at No. 1 and 2. Fries and Khrapko won their fifth in a row at No. 1, and Chaudhry and David Hager collected their third straight victory at No. 2.

In singles play, Chaudhry, Fries and Hager scored three of the four wins along with Jack Riazzi. There were four sets that went to tie-breakers, with the Wildcats winning three of them

Chaudhry and Fries each tallied their fourth straight singles wins, playing at positions No. 2 (7-6(7), 6-1) and 4 (7-5, 6-7, 13-11). Fries won his 11th match on the season.

Hager gave up just one game in a dominating 6-1, 6-0 match at No. 5, while Riazzi pulled out a hard-fought 7-6(4), 6-4 decision at No. 6 to improve to 9-2 on the season.

At No. 1, Khrapko saw his season-best eight-match win streak come to an end after a tough 7-6(5), 6-3 defeat.

Davidson stays on the road and faces former Southern Conference foe Elon next in a March 28 match.
