CHICAGO, Ill. — The Davidson men's tennis team traveled to the Windy City of Chicago over the weekend for a pair of matches against UIC (W, 6-1) and DePaul (L, 3-4), earning a split in taking the first one Saturday before falling just short Sunday.

It was the Wildcats (3-3) first-ever meetings against the Flames (0-3) and the Blue Demons (7-3), while their result against DePaul was the third time this year a match had been decided by the score of 4-3.

Saturday the Wildcats rolled to their third consecutive win in a first-time matchup against UIC. They first captured the doubles point with victories of 6-2 at No. 1 by Axel Fries and Artem Khrapko and 6-4 at No. 3 by the team of Jack Riazzi and Yash Parikh.

The winning continued in singles action as Fries, Khrapko and Riazzi each won, as did Shamael Chaudhry and David Hager to seal up the team win. Fries needed a super tie-breaker win, 10-4, to determine his match at No. 5 after splitting the first two sets, 5-7, 6-3.

Khrapko nailed down a three-set victory with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 decision at No. 1 for his second straight win, while fellow senior Riazzi won his third straight with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6.

Fellow classmates Chaudhry (6-2, 6-2 at No. 2) and Hager (6-4, 6-2 at No. 4) each won their third and second matches in a row, respectively.

It was a tightly played match Sunday against DePaul inside the Lakeshore Sports & Fitness Center. The doubles point came down to a tie-breaker at No. 1, with the Blue Demons pulling out a 7-5 win. The Wildcat duo of Chaudhy and Hager secured their third consecutive win together with a 6-3 decision at No. 2.

Chaudhry won his team-leading fourth straight match with a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 2, while Riazzi tied him with his fourth win in a row as well after a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 triumph at No. 6. The senior has won all four of his matches so far this year.

The Wildcats other team point came from Fries, who moved to 4-2 on the season after a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4.

Davidson comes home for a doubleheader, Feb. 17, against Wingate and Radford.
