TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Dwayne Bacon scored a game-high 23 points and Malik Beasley added 21 to lead Florida State to an 84-74 victory over Davidson in the opening round of the NIT Tuesday at the Tucker Center.
Making their 21st postseason appearance in school history, the Wildcats conclude the 2015-16 season 20-13 overall. The 'Noles advance to face the winner of Valpo and Texas Southern.
Despite the loss, Jack Gibbs led four Davidson players in double figures with 17 points. Peyton Aldridge finished with 16, including four of his club's 13 3-pointers, while Brian Sullivan and Jordan Barham had 13 and 10, respectively, in their final collegiate contests.
Shortly after the Wildcats made it a one-point game, 47-46, Florida State (20-13) responded with a pair of small runs and eventually stretched the margin to as many as 15.
In addition to shooting 56.3 percent in the second half and 46.9 percent overall, the 'Noles went 21-of-24 at the charity stripe. Davidson finished with a 41.9 percent clip and hit 9-of-11 free throws.
Florida State held a 44-28 advantage on the glass and recorded 48 points in the paint.
The Seminoles broke a 17-17 tie with an 11-3 run midway through the first half before taking a 30-26 lead into the break.
