Wildcats Host Anderson at Belk Arena Sunday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team returns to Belk Arena as the Wildcats play host to Anderson Sunday. The match is set for 1 p.m.

Headlock on Hunger
The Davidson wrestling team will be supporting Headlock on Hunger, an initiative that aims to help provide food for children who are dealing with hunger at home. The team will be collected canned food throughout the season at all home matches. At the end of the season, the food collected will be brought to the Southern Conference Championship. Fans that donate canned food will have the opportunity to win a variety of prizes at select home matches.
Last Time Out
The Wildcats opened the 2016 portion of their schedule at the Pitt Duals Jan. 9. Four wrestlers registered a win as Davidson fell to Franklin & Marshall, No. 20 Pittsburgh and Hofstra.
Nathaniel Powers put Davidson on the board against Franklin & Marshall. The senior earned a hard fought, 3-2, decision over Josh Young at 174. At 197, Michael Moore posted a win over Jack Argast, 4-2.
Freshman Tony Palumbo posted the lone win against No. 20 Pittsburgh. Palumbo earned a sudden victory decision over Nathan Russell at 157 pounds.
Dustin Runzo claimed victory at 133 pounds in the final match versus Hofstra. The sophomore earned an 8-0 major decision over Marcus Begay.
Captains
Senior Nathaniel Powers and sophomore Dustin Runzo will serve as the captains for the 2015-16 season.
Newcomers
Head coach Bob Patnesky announced the addition of seven newcomers for the 2015-16 campaign. Camden Bertucci, Zamir Ode, Billy McClelland, Aidan Conroy, Tony Palumbo, Adam Flatt and JC Burton make up the class of 2019. The incoming freshmen represent six states and six different weight classes.
On the Sidelines
Head coach Bob Patnesky enters his 12th season at the helm of the Davidson wrestling program. Last season, Patnesky became the second most winningest coach in program history, registering his 60th career victory after defeating Coker, 22-18, Feb. 15.
First-year assistant coach Colin Johnston joins Patnesky. Johnston comes to Davidson after a successful career at West Virginia at 133 and 141 pounds.
