Gibbs’ 41 Leads Wildcats Past Morehead State, 81-77

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Jack Gibbs matched his career-high with 41 points (25 second half) to lead Davidson to an 81-77 victory over Morehead State in the 2015 Gotham Classic, Wednesday afternoon at John M. Belk Arena.
A junior from Westerville, Ohio, Gibbs finished 13-of-18 from the floor, drilled six 3-pointers and went 9-of-12 from the charity stripe.
In addition to entering the game fourth nationally in scoring, Gibbs joins Stephen Curry (6), John Gerdy (3) and Fred Hetzel (3) as the only Wildcats with multiple 40-point performances.
Trailing 58-51, Davidson (8-2) went on a 14-5 run and grabbed the lead for good on a Peyton Aldridge layup with 6:17 to play.
Jordan Barham and Aldridge also scored in double figures for the Wildcats with 17 and 11 points, respectively, while pulling down 8 rebounds each.
As a team, Davidson shot 72.7 percent (16-22) in the second half to finish the game at 59.6 percent, which included a 10-for-21 effort from long range.
Miguel Dicent led five Eagles in double figures with 16 points. Brent Arrington (15), Corban Collins (12), DeJuan Marrero (12) and Anthony Elechi (11) also scored in double digits for Morehead State.
Marrero grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for his second career double-double.
Morehead State (6-4), which drilled 9-of-13 3-pointers in the opening half, raced out to a 10-0 advantage and led by as many as 11 in the period. After the Wildcats used a 16-5 spurt to take their first lead, the Eagles stretched the margin back to six, before going to the half up, 37-34.
Both teams finished with 31 rebounds.
