Valpo Rallies Past Davidson With Late Touchdowns

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite 114 yards receiving and two touchdowns from William Morris, Davidson suffered a 42-35 setback to Valparaiso in Pioneer Football League action Saturday at Richardson Stadium.
With the score tied 35-35, the Crusaders Griffin Norberg scored the game-winning touchdown on a 12-yard reception from Ryan Clarke with 1:55 remaining. Clarke finished the day 18-of-32 with five touchdown passes and two interceptions, both by William Curran.
Shortly after Davidson took a 35-28 lead on Morris' second touchdown reception, a 29-yard grab, Valpo's Jarrett Morgan scampered 89 yards on the ensuing kickoff to tie the score.
Derek Jones, also had a pair of touchdown receptions for the Wildcats, both coming in the second half, to tie the game on separate occasions.
In addition to Morris, Taylor Mitchell finished the day completing 19-of-35 passes for 196 yards with three touchdowns. Austin Wells picked up 57 yards off 17 carries. Defensively, Chris Woods led the 'Cats with 10 tackles.
Frank Catrine led the Crusaders with 135 yards receiving off nine catches with a long of 50 yards. Running back Brandon Hall tallied 98 yards on 28 carries.
After a Valparaiso touchdown on its first series, Davidson took its first lead of the season as it scored back-to-back touchdowns to go up 14-7.
With 6:28 left in the opening quarter, Davidson made the most of a Valpo fumble as David Rogers scored from three yards out.
The Wildcats carried a 14-7 lead into the half thanks to a 37-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell to Morris, which capped a 12-play 93-yard scoring drive.
Davidson will return to Richardson Stadium next Saturday, Oct. 10 to host Kentucky Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
