ELON, N.C. – Chris Czerapowicz led Davidson with a season-high 20 points, as the Wildcats prevailed in a back-and-forth game with Elon, 69-63, in Southern Conference basketball action Wednesday night in Alumni Gym.
For the second consecutive game, Tyler Kalinoski was clutch down the stretch for Davidson (22-7, 16-1 SoCon), scoring all nine of his points with less than seven minutes remaining. He tied the game at 52-52 with 6:06 remaining on a three-ball, and after Lucas Troutman answered for Elon (19-10, 12-5 SoCon) with a layup, he drilled another trey to put the Wildcats up for good.
The Phoenix got to within two, 65-63, with 19 seconds remaining on back-to-back Jack Isenbarger 3-pointers, but that's as close as they would get.
Czerapowicz, who finished 8-of-18 from the floor, including four triples, also led Davidson on the glass with eight rebounds. Jake Cohen scored 12 points and had five rebounds in 20 minutes of action, while De'Mon Brooks contributed 10 points.
Isenbarger paced three Elon players in double figures with 18 points. Troutman and Tanner Samson each scored 11, while Ryley Beaumont and Sebastien Koch had eight rebounds apiece.
Both teams shot 42 percent from the floor, while Davidson held a 35-32 edge on the glass. The Wildcats, the top free-throw shooting team in the country, finished 19-of-28 at the line after going just 5-for-10 in the first 20 minutes.
After Davidson went up 27-20 on a Czerapowicz jumper with just under five minutes left in the first half, the Phoenix closed on a 14-4 flurry capped off by four of their seven 3-pointers in the period to take a 34-31 lead into the break.
Trailing 42-38 early in the second half, the Wildcats used a 9-2 spurt to go back in front, 49-44. Elon responded with eight unanswered to retake the lead, 52-49.
Davidson will conclude its regular season with a 2 p.m. tip against Georgia Southern Saturday afternoon. Prior to the contest, seniors Nik Cochran, Jake Cohen, JP Kuhlman, Clint Mann and manager David Sikule will be recognized.
