DAVIDSON, N.C. –
Coming off its first dual match win of the season, the Davidson wrestling team will look to build a winning streak tonight in a tri-meet with St. Andrews (7 p.m.) and Anderson (immediately following) in Belk Arena. Students can make their own ice cream sundaes and the first 15 students will receive a free “golden ticket” from Our Town Cinemas.

Anderson and St. Andrews will face each other at 5:30 p.m.

Scouting the Wildcats: Davidson (1-11) snapped a 16-match skid dating back to last season when freshman Ed Isola earned a pin in a must-win match at 197 pounds for a 24-20 win over Millersville. Freshmen Ben Hartshorn (141), Kevin Birmingham (149) and Ian Solcz (174) and senior Tyler Mullen (165) all won by decision. Junior Matt Zarth won by forfeit at 125 pounds. Birmingham leads the team with 11 wins while Mullen boasts a 10-8 record.

Scouting the Trojans: Anderson University, which competes in NCAA Division II, is 4-19 this season and has dropped 16 of their last 17 matches. Davidson will be the second Southern Conference school the Trojans have competed against this season, as they suffered a 38-6 loss to Campbell in November. Dan Telhada (149 pounds) and Nicholas Giulliette (157) lead the team with records of 15-6 and 14-9, respectively. Davidson is 6-7-1 all-time against Anderson, dropping  a 30-13 decision last year.

Scouting the Knights: St. Andrews, which also competes in Division II, is 3-7 this season and rides a four-match losing streak. Eric Brown (125 pounds) leads the team with an 18-11 record. Davidson is 2-0 all-time against St. Andrews, but the two teams have not met since the 1968-69 season. The Wildcats are the first Division I opponent the Knights have challenged this season.

Up Next: Davidson has just three dual meets remaining before the SoCon Championship tournament, which will be held on March 3 in Chattanooga, Tenn. The 'Cats will host The Citadel on Saturday and Gardner-Webb on Thursday, Feb. 16 before concluding the regular season Sunday, Feb. 19 at Appalachian State at 3 p.m.
