Wrestling Hosts The Citadel in SoCon Match Saturday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson and The Citadel will meet in a Southern Conference wrestling match Saturday in Belk Arena at 2 p.m.
Scouting the Wildcats: Davidson (3-11, 0-3 SoCon) enters the contest on a three-match winning streak after earning a pair of wins Tuesday over Anderson (37-9) and St. Andrews (33-9). Matt Zarth (125 pounds), Anthony Elias (133), Ben Hartshorn (141), Tyler Mullen (165), Ian Solcz (174) and Chris Cirenza (184) went undefeated on the night to lead the Wildcats (3-11). Davidson won six of the contested bouts against Anderson and earned two victories via forfeit. The Wildcats then took the first eight bouts against St. Andrews before dropping the 197-pound bout and forfeiting at heavyweight. Hartshorn, Solcz and Zarth have been victorious in their last three outings. Freshman Kevin Birmingham, sophomore Scott Patrick and senior Tyler Mullen lead the team with 12 wins each.
Scouting the Bulldogs: The Citadel (5-8, 1-2 SoCon) enters the weekend after finishing third at the All-Academy Championships at Air Force last weekend. Richard Alarcon (125) and Odie Delaney (285) captured titles, while Turtogtokh Luvsandorj (174) and Kelby Smith (197) each finished in second place. Delaney is ranked No. 15 in the latest InterMat rankings with a 20-2 record and Smith boasts a team-leading 28 wins. The Bulldogs wrestled Gardner-Webb Friday night. The Citadel took a 29-9 victory in last season's meeting.
Up Next: Davidson has just two dual meets remaining before the SoCon Championship tournament, which will be held on March 3 in Chattanooga, Tenn. The 'Cats will host Gardner-Webb on Thursday, Feb. 16 before concluding the regular season Sunday, Feb. 19 at Appalachian State at 3 p.m. Senior Tyler Mullen will be honored prior to the Gardner-Webb match.
