DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis match vs. Brown today has been moved back an hour as the match will now start at 4 p.m.
Davidson (9-4, 3-2 SoCon) is seeking its sixth win in the last seven matches. Today's match will conclude an eight-match homestand that has seen the Wildcats go 5-2 in that span. They are 9-2 overall on the season on their home court.
The 'Cats had their five-match win streak snapped on Sunday in a 5-2 setback vs. College of Charleston. The five straight wins were the most since the 1999 squad rattled off five in a row. Twice during the 2008 season Davidson had four-match win streaks.
Davidson and Brown (9-8) have faced each other the last two years, with both teams winning their home matches vs. each other, respectively. The Wildcats took a 6-1 decision two years ago, while the Bears earned a 7-0 win last season.
Individually, Calum Gee (Ayr, Scotland) and Sam Burns (Banner Elk, N.C.) are leading the way as the duo are riding 10- and six-match win streaks, respectively, in singles play. Gee is tied with freshman Chris Mark (Union City, Calif.) for the team lead with 10 wins, while the sophomore is a perfect 5-0 in league matches as well.
Burns is right behind Gee and Mark with nine wins, owning a 9-1 overall record and a 5-0 mark in SoCon matches.
Davidson as a team has been very successful in singles play, compiling a 52-21 mark.
The 'Cats doubles teams have also been mainly on the winning side as they have combined to go 24-13. The pair of Gee and Walker Lyons (Wallingford, Pa.) are a team-best 10-2 overall and were riding a five-match win streak before having it snapped on Sunday vs. College of Charleston. Senior Eric Noble (Fayetteville, N.C.) and freshman Joe Schafer (Orchard Park, N.Y.) also had a five-match win streak prior to Sunday's loss to the Cougars and as a team are 7-3 overall.
Following today's match, Davidson will hit the road for a 3 p.m. match at Wofford on Wednesday, Mar. 31. The Wildcats are in the midst of playing four matches in a five-day stretch.
