Wildcats Cruise to 87-65 Exhibition Win Over Lenoir-Rhyne

Four Wildcats scored in double figures as the Davidson men's basketball team earned an 87-65 exhibition win over Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday night at John M. Belk Arena.

Seniors Will Archambault and Bryant Barr led the 'Cats in scoring with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Archambault hit 7-of-13 from the field, including one trey, and was 3-for-3 on free throws. Barr went 6-for-11, hitting 5-of-9 from behind the arc. Steve Rossiter and Brendan McKillop both scored 10 points each.

As a team, Davidson shot 55.0 percent (33-of-60) and hit 11-of-25 (44.0 percent) 3-pointers.

The Wildcats never trailed, holding the lead from McKillop's opening steal and fast-break layup until the end of the game. The Cats' opened the contest with a 17-point scoring run, yielding their first point on a free throw 5:57 into the game and not allowing a field goal until 6:16 in.

Lenoir-Rhyne closed the margin to 16 points midway through the second half, but the 'Cats were able to stretch the lead to as large as 25 near the conclusion of the game. D.J. Blackmon led Lenoir-Rhyne with 18 points.

Barr and Archambault both totaled five rebounds, with each pulling in four in the first half. All five of Archabault's came on defense, and he also led the 'Cats with three steals. Rossiter and McKillop each had two as Davidson totaled 11.

Freshmen J.P. Kuhlman and Jake Cohen both made strong debuts. Kuhlman scored nine points, hitting 2-of-3 3-pointers. Cohen finished with eight points, three assists and three rebounds.

Senior Dan Nelms led the 'Cats with four assists. He also scored seven points and pulled in four boards.

Davidson carried a 45-23 lead into halftime, after hitting 17-of-31 shots (54.8 percent), including six-of-14 from behind the arc. Davidson's lead was as large as 25 near the conclusion of the half.

Barr and Archambault led the 'Cats in scoring in the first half. Barr totaled 11 points, hitting 3-of-5 3-pointers. Archambault scored nine.

The Wildcats will begin the 2009-10 regular season next Saturday (Nov. 14) at Butler. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m and the game will be televised live in the greater Charlotte Metropolitan region on WJZY-TV 46 (Cable Ch. 8). The home opener is set for Wednesday, Nov. 25 against Fredonia State at 7 p.m.
