Keegan Kennedy joined the Davidson football staff on January 9, 2025. In addition to roles as associate head coach, Kennedy will also serve as the program’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.
Kennedy spent the 2024 season at Richmond, where helped the Spiders finish second among CAA leaders in rushing yards with 2,527, while the offensive line allowed running back Zach Palmer-Smith to become the first UR player since 2015 rush for over 1,000 yards in a season.
With Kennedy leading the offensive line and run game, the Spiders finished fourth in the CAA with 4,945 yards of total offense, while the team averaged 27.15 points per game as well as 380.4 yards per game. Kennedy led center Tom Elia (First Team) and right guard Cade Salyers (Third Team) to All-CAA honors in 2024, while Elia was also named an AP All-American.
Kennedy came to Richmond from Harvard where he served in the same role since January of 2019. Prior to Harvard, Kennedy spent three seasons with Coastal Athletic Association member Rhode Island and has made stops at Central Florida and John Carroll.
In 2023, Kennedy led Harvard to being the Ivy League's top rushing team as his offensive line blocked for five of the Ivy League's top 10 rushers. Five of Kennedy's linemen were All-Ivy selections as the unit helped Harvard win the 2023 Ivy League championship with a league-best 8-2 record. The Crimson finished first among Ivy teams with 31.8 points per game.
In 2022, four offensive linemen earned All-Ivy honors under Kennedy. The 2022 Crimson offensive line ranked 14th in the FCS in fewest sacks allowed, while allowing running back Aidan Borguet to rank first in the Ivy League and ninth in the country in rushing yards per game. Kennedy developed an overall rushing attack that finished second in the league in rushing yards per game with 160.9.
In 2021, Kennedy had two of his offensive linemen collect All-Ivy League honors as they helped the Crimson boast two of the top-5 rushers in the Ivy League in Aaron Shampklin (No. 1) and Borguet (No. 5), all while lifting the Crimson offense to the second-best scoring unit (32.4 ppg) in the Ivy.
In his first season in Cambridge, Kennedy made an immediate impact when he guided three offensive linemen to 2019 All-Ivy League recognition. Harvard's 2021 offense averaged 29.6 points per game, 153.2 rushing yards per game, 387.5 total yards per game, 13.5 yards per completions and 4.1 yards per rush under Kennedy.
While at Rhode Island from 2016-2018, Kennedy served as the offensive line coach/run game coordinator where he led an offensive line that helped the Rams average 351.9 yards per game during the 2018 season. In addition, Rhode Island's offense improved to third in the CAA in scoring offense (30.8 points per game) and passing offense (230.3 yards per game) under his tutelage. During the 2018 season, Kennedy helped Rhode Island earn it's first winning record in 17 years.
Prior to joining Rhode Island's staff, Kennedy worked in a variety of roles at Central Florida from 2012-15. Kennedy began his stint with the Knights as a graduate assistant and quickly climbed the ranks to become the tight ends and halfbacks coach for the 2013, 2014 and 2015 seasons. In addition to coaching, Kennedy was the director of player personnel during the 2014 season where he led recruiting efforts for the Knights' 2015 signing class.
Kennedy got his career started at Division III John Carroll as an assistant offensive coach and was the primary tight ends coach. While with the Blue Streaks, Kennedy also served as the team's assistant strength and conditioning coach.
A four-year letterwinner at Northwestern, Kennedy played on the offensive line where he was named All-Big Ten his senior year. A standout in the classroom, Kennedy was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection as well as a member of the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.
A double graduate of Northwestern, he graduated with a degree in communications and a minor in religion in 2009 before earning his master's in sports administration in 2011.
