'Cats Take Down Queens In Five Sets On The Road

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Davidson won its fourth straight match after an impressive five-set victory at Queens on Friday night. Elena Garcia-Guerrios tied her career high with 26 kills and posted a .367 hitting percentage. Meile Songaila recorded the final three kills of the match to seal the victory in the fifth set.
The Wildcats jumped out to a strong start in the opening set. With the score 8-7 in favor of the 'Cats, Davidson won six straight points. This was highlighted by two kills from Ariyana Johnson and Elena Garcia-Guerrios. The Wildcats won the first set 25-15 and recorded a team hitting percentage of .548. Davidson only had two attack errors in the frame.
Davidson dropped the next two sets (19-25, 22-25).
The fourth set was tied 11-11 and that's when the Wildcats went on a roll. Davidson won eight of the next 10 points with a balanced effort. Meile Songaila, Melanie Tilles, Elena Garcia-Guerrios, and Ellie Ocampo all registered kills during this stretch. The 'Cats won the fourth set 25-18 and forced a fifth set.
The score was tied 12-12 in the final frame. Meile Songaila stepped up with three straight kills and lifted the Wildcats to a 15-12 victory in the fifth set.
Songaila finished with a career-high 19 kills and 13 digs. Brooke Briscoe had 28 digs and only two reception errors.
Kinsey Smith logged a career-high 50 assists and added 18 digs. The junior also had two service aces.
Ariyana Johnson collected a career-high 19 kills on 41 swings.
