Wildcats Win Twice On The Road Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Davidson earned two wins in the Greensboro area against UNCG and North Carolina A&T on Saturday. The Wildcats beat the UNCG Spartans in four sets (25-17, 13-25, 25-22, 25-19) and also took down the Aggies in four sets (15-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-21).
Match at UNCG
With the score 6-6 in the opening set, Davidson won six straight points and took a 12-6 advantage. The stretch was highlighted by two kills from Meile Songaila. Senior Melanie Tilles also shined in the first set with four kills on just five swings. The 'Cats only had three attack errors and posted a .375 hitting percentage as a team in the first set.
After Davidson dropped the second set, Elena Garcia-Guerrios came up big at the service line in the third frame. The senior recorded three service aces and two of them were the last two points to close out the third set.
The Wildcats had five total blocks in the fourth set, which helped lift the team to a 25-19 win in the frame.
Brooke Briscoe wore the Libero jersey and recorded a career-high 30 digs for Davidson.
Five scholar-athletes had at least eight kills, led by Meile Songaila who had 12. Elena Garcia-Guerrios logged another double double with 10 kills and 17 digs. Garcia-Guerrios also had for service aces. Melanie Tilles had a season-high eight kills.
Ngodoo Harris posted a team-high eight block assists.
Match at NC A&T
Davidson's most efficient set was the third frame. The 'Cats posted a .306 hitting percentage. Meile Songaila had four kills with a .375 hitting percentage. Elena Garcia-Guerrios had five kills with zero errors.
The Wildcats finished the match with 13 total blocks. Cayla Weisner, Ariyana Johnson, and Melanie Tilles each had two solo blocks.
Garcia-Guerrios logged her second double double of the day with 14 kills and 18 digs. Johnson also matched Garcia-Guerrios with a team-high 14 kills.
Kinsey Smith had 21 assists and Ylame Dsamou had 19 assists.
