Felt Resets A-10 Mark in Final Swim at NCAAs

ATLANTA — Davidson's Dylan Felt swam his way to one more memory Friday morning.
And he did it with a mind full of them.
For the second straight day at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at Georgia Tech and in his final competitive event, Felt swam his best. Once again, the senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., improved upon his own school and Atlantic 10 records, this time in the 500 freestyle.
Swimming out of Lane 5 in Heat 1, Felt clocked in with a time of 4:16.15, topping his previous mark of 4:16.58. That was good enough to place 27th in prelims, ahead of multiple swimmers with Olympic experience and 15 spots above seeding.
"I knew this was going to be my last swim ever, so by the like the last 200, every moment from my swim history was going through my mind," said Felt. "So it was a pretty emotional swim for me, but I really tried to get my hand on the wall first. I just put everything I had out there"
Felt said he was thinking about his family members, coaches past and present and his friends and teammates, many of whom were in McAuley Aquatic Center cheering him on. Everyone's support, he said, is what he'll remember most about his NCAA experience.
"For a swimmer of his caliber, this is where he deserves to finish his collegiate swimming career," said Davidson coach John Young. "And we couldn't be more proud of him."
Felt completed his career with lengthy list of accomplishments. In four years, he secured 15 A-10 medals and three A-10 records, also including the 200 free (1:32.94) and 1,650 free (14:55.89), and he owns the top times in all of Davidson's freestyle events.
He swam in the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials, and he's one of four Wildcats in the exclusive NCAA club, having joined Lindsey Martin (2010, 2011), Drew Onken (2012) and Elise Lankiewicz (2017).
"It's been a terrific trip," said Young. "This is a hard meet to qualify for. This is a hard meet to swim best times, so it's a great capstone for an incredible career for Dylan."
