Davidson hits the 20-win mark for the first time since 2012-13.
DAVIDSON — A late 13-2 run broke open a tight game and propelled the Davidson women's basketball team past Saint Louis 74-62 in the final game of the regular season Saturday afternoon in Belk Arena.
It's the 20th win of the year for the Wildcats, who hit the 20-win mark for the first time since the 2012-13 campaign and the only time as an Atlantic 10 Conference member.
Winners of the last four games and five of six, the Wildcats closed the regular season 20-11 and 12-6 in the A-10. The 'Cats clinch their second consecutive double bye in the A-10 tournament and the four seed with the win.
Katie Donovan scored a team-high 24 points to lead the way, while Charlise Dunn scored 17 on her Senior Day. Emilie Bessell chipped in 11 points.
The decisive run came in the fourth quarter with the Wildcats trailing 58-56 and began with back-to-back go-ahead buckets from Dunn, including a trey from the left wing. Bessell and Angeliki Ziaka also added threes, and when Dunn found Donovan for a layup with 43 ticks to play, Davidson had scored 10 straight points and had a 69-60 lead. In all, Davidson closed the game with an 18-4 advantage in the final 3:06.
The Wildcats, who swept the two-game season series, led by as many as nine in the first half on their way to a 33-29 lead at the break.
Alyssa Koerkenmeier had a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Billikens (11-20, 5-13).
