WASHINGTON — Four Davidson Wildcats have been named to the Atlantic 10 Conference Swimming and Diving All-Academic Teams, the league announced Tuesday morning.

Senior diver Annica Valmassei and senior swimmer Guil Ware earned their second straight selections, while junior swimmers Liam McDonough and Ryan Shute received their first recognition.

"I'm delighted for Annica and Guil to be recognized again and for Liam and Ryan to also have their academic accomplishments recognized by the A-10," said Davidson coach John Young. "Being named to the All-Academic Team is a manifestation of our programs' highest priority, the achievement of academic and athletic successes in harmony, and I'm grateful for the leadership of these Wildcats at the pool and in the classroom."

Valmassei, from Lake Lotawana, Mo., is a Chemistry major and the A-10 champion in the 3-meter event with a score of 303.15. It was her second title in the event, and Valmassei also placed fifth in the 1M (250.25).

Ware is an Economics major from Virginia Beach, Va., and was an all-around contributor for the Wildcats at A-10s. He swam in three freestyle finals (50, 100, 200) and on three top-five relays, including the fourth-place 200 medley relay (1:27.06) and the fifth-place 200 free and 400 free relays.

McDonough, a Political Science major from Takoma Park, Md., reached the championship finals in both the 100 back (7th, 48.20) and 200 back (8th, 1:50.11). He also swam in the 200 IM finals and with three top-five relays, including the fourth-place 200 medley relay and the fifth-place 200 free and 400 medley relays, the latter of which set a school record (3:13.27).

Shute, a Biology major from North Attleboro, Mass., reached the A-10 finals in three events, including a seventh-place finish in the 400 IM (4:00.97). He also swam the 200 IM and the 200 breast in the night session.
