WASHINGTON — Davidson forward Reed Bailey, the Atlantic 10 Conference's top scorer, has been named the league's Chris Daniels Most Improved Player and to the A-10 First Team, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
A 6-foot-10 junior forward from Harvard, Mass., Bailey is averaging 18.9 points per game, up from 12.7 a year ago.
Bailey is the eighth Wildcat to earn A-10 First Team honors and the first since Luka Brajkovic and Hyunjung Lee in 2022. He is the only Wildcat to receive the A-10's Most Improved award.
Bailey has turned in 13 20-point games and scored in double figures 28 times, and his top performances have come in league play, where he's averaged 19.7 points per contest. He was one rebound shy of a triple-double at Rhode Island Jan. 18, finishing with 30 points, a career-best 11 assists and nine boards. He scored a career-high 32 points at Richmond Jan. 25, and in a six-day span in February, he had double-doubles against Loyola-Chicago (19 points, career-high 14 rebounds) and UMass (21 points, 10 rebounds).
Bailey leads the A-10 in free throws attempted (221) and made (170), is second with 201 field goals made and also ranks among the league leaders in field goal percentage (.480, 7th), assists per game (3.8, 9th) and rebounds per game (6.3, 12th).
Along with his scoring boost, Bailey has improved his production in nearly every statistical category this season, including in field goal percentage (42.4% to 48.0%), 3-point percentage (21.7% to 42.9%), rebounds per game (5.8 to 6.3), assists per game (1.4 to 3.8) and total blocks (9 to 25).
Bailey and the 12th-seeded Wildcats will open A-10 Tournament play Wednesday when they face No. 13 Richmond at 11:30 a.m.
