Patel Named Under Armour A-10 Player of the Week

WASHINGTON - The Davidson women's tennis team picked up its first Atlantic 10 weekly honor of the season as Kavya Patel was named the Under Armour Player of the Week following an strong performance over a two-match weekend, the league office announced Tuesday.

Patel, a native of Roswell, Ga. was undefeated against both Fordham and East Carolina Univeristy over the weekend. The senior kicked off the two-day span with a 6-3 No. 1 doubles win alongside Daniela Porges before capping off the match against the Rams with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph in No. 1 singles. In the Wildcats 4-2 win over ECU, Patel again cruised to a 6-3 doubles win with Porges. Patel closed out the weekend with a match-clinching three-set victory (6-2, 6-7(8), 6-2) on court one in singles.

For the season, Patel is an undefeated 5-0 in singles competition with all five wins coming from the No. 1 position. With her two doubles victories, Patel is now a roster-best 5-2 in paired competition, on a three-match winning streak.

Davidson continues non-conference match play when it travels to face Presbyterian 2 p.m. Feb. 22.
