Stewart and Davis Lead the Way; ‘Cats Seventh After Day One in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – Behind the play of seniors Joshua Stewart and Will Davis, the Davidson men's golf team sits seventh after the opening day of the Hal Williams Collegiate hosted by the University of South Alabama.
The annual two-day / 54-hole event is being played at Magnolia Grove. Tomorrow's final round will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
Thanks to a combined 11 birdies, Stewart (-6) carded rounds of 67 and 69, while Davis (-4) posted a pair of two-under 69s to sit tied for sixth and 10th, respectively.
After opening with a three-under 281 in their first round this spring, the Wildcats were one better in the afternoon to finish the day at 561 (-7), just four back of second-place, which is occupied by Kansas State (-11) and Memphis (-11).
Southern Methodist, ranked 15th nationally, leads the field by nine strokes at 20-under. Kent State (-10) and Texas State (-9) round out the Top-5 just ahead of the 'Cats.
Nate Faulkner (+2 | T-46), Will Tharin (+2 | T-46) and Clayton Couey (+6 | T-64) are also in the Davidson lineup. Davis Sayman (+5 | T-59) is competing in the 75-player field as an individual.
In addition to the host and Wildcats, the 13-team field will include Oral Roberts, Kent State, Southern Mississippi, Texas State, Southern Methodist, Kansas State, Seton Hall, Louisiana Tech, Alabama at Birmingham, Memphis and Southern Illinois.
