Peake Makes Quarterfinals to Highlight Day One at Southern Scuffle

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Junior captain Tanner Peake advanced to the quarterfinals, and five Wildcats are still alive in the consolation bracket following the first day of the Southern Scuffle on Saturday.
Peake, a junior from Flemington, N.J., entered the weekend ranked No. 25 in FloWrestling's 157-pound rankings and earned the tournament's no. 2-seed. He found his way to the quarterfinals following a 6-1 first-round victory over Duke's Logan Ferrero and a 4-1 overtime win over North Dakota State's Gabriel Schumm. Peake worked a takedown in the final minute of the first overtime period to move on. He was forced out of the tournament in the quarterfinal round after an injury.
Five other Wildcats will be back on the mats in the consolation bracket. Tyler-Xavier McKnight and Anderson Heap remain in the 149-pound division, Blake Reihner is still alive at 133 pounds, Tyson Sherlock went 2-1 and will wrestle tomorrow at 141, and Ian McGehee won three matches after an opening loss in the 165-pound bracket.
Day two will begin with quarterfinal and consolation quarterfinals at 10:00 a.m. with medal matches beginning at 3:00 p.m.
