Davidson Splits Day Two of Queens Fall Classic

9/14/2024 11:13:00 PM | Volleyball

CHARLOTTE – After a 3-1 morning victory over William & Mary, the Davidson Wildcats dropped a five-set match to USC Upstate on Saturday evening to split day two of the Queens Fall Classic.

Isabel Decker and Emma Slusser were named to the All-Tournament Team, after leading the 'Cats to a 2-1 stretch from the Queen City.

Match 1 - Davidson 3, William & Mary 1
Four Wildcats recorded double-digit kills to push Davidson to its second victory in as many days on Saturday morning. Elena Garcia-Guerrios and Slusser notched 15 kills apiece, while Decker and Anna Withee each picked up 10.

Davidson's blocking unit proved to be the difference-maker, as the 'Cats produced a season-best 10 total blocks. First-year Cayla Weisner, in her second career start, recorded seven blocks of her own, including a solo stuff.

On the attack, the Wildcats swung an impressive .600 and .424 in the first and fourth sets, respectively, to hold off any Tribe counter attack.

Match 2 - USC Upstate 3, Davidson 2
Davidson put up a fight against the Spartans on Saturday evening, forcing five sets despite losing the first two frames.

After falling behind 2-0, the 'Cats won sets three and four both by a score of 25-18, before dropping the fifth 15-10.

Davidson's four pin-hitters recorded double-digit kills once again, with Slusser leading game two with 16 strikes, while Withee added 15. Garcia-Guerrios (14 kills, 13 digs) and Decker (14 kills, 16 digs) also recorded double-doubles.

Up Next
Davidson will return to the floor next Saturday and Sunday for its final non-conference weekend, taking on Appalachian State and Wake Forest in Winston-Salem.
