Wildcats Topped 4-3 by Charleston

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson men's tennis team dropped a narrow 4-3 non-conference home match to Charleston Saturday.Â
"We came up a little short today," said head coach Drew Barrett. "Doubles was better which gave us a chance at the end. Juan Camilo Perez Gongora had his chances and battled but his opponent was a little better on some key points."
The Wildcats started strong out of the gate securing the doubles points via 6-1 triumph by Jerry Wang and Luca Lovrich in the No. 3 spot, followed by a 6-3 win on court two by Perez Gongora and Nico Pinzon.Â
The Cougars struck back taking the first singles bout of the day on court three before Wang regained the team lead for the 'Cats with a 6-4, 6-3 singles win in the No. 5 position. Udday Singh added an insurance point for Davidson, defeating his opponent 7-5, 6-1 on court two shortly after.Â
Charleston knotted the score once more taking the next two matches on courts six and four respectively, leaving a battle for match point to the No. 1's.Â
Perez Gongora in the top spot, took the opening set 6-1 before falling 6-3 in the second to force a third. The junior battled for every game but was eventually defeated 7-5 to clinch the match for the Cougars.Â

Davidson will play the last of two regular-season home matches 12 p.m. Sunday when it hosts The Citidel on senior day at the Davidson Tennis Courts.Â
