BOONE, N.C. – Tyler-Xavier McKnight, Anderson Heap, and Matt McLaughlin placed at the Mountaineer Invitational in Boone, N.C. on Saturday.
McKnight, a sophomore from Cartersville, Ga., was coming off a 5-1 weekend where he finished 5th at the Southeast Open. On Saturday, he earned a tech fall victory over Presbyterian's Ryan Luna in his opening bout in the Invite division before taking down App State's Kai Odell in the semifinals. In that match, McKnight overcame a 7-4 first-period deficit behind a takedown and and escape in the second period. Odell tied the match at 8-8 with an escape with 1:47 remaining then, McKnight sliced in for another takedown with 22 seconds left to go ahead 11-8. Odell escaped but McKnight advanced to the finals with an 11-9 decision. In the final, McKnight fell to App's Kaden Keiser on a takedown in the last 30 seconds. He moved to 7-2 on the season.
Freshman Anderson Heap finished fourth in the same weight class in the Invite division. Heap defeated Minnesota's Theo Cha in a 4-2 decision but fell to Keiser in a tight match in the semifinals. In that match, the St. Cloud native got a takedown with 27 seconds left to tie the match, but Keiser was able to escape with seven ticks on the clock to advance. Heap then fell to Cha in a rematch during the third-place bout, 5-3.
In the Open Division, Matt McLaughlin took third place in a round-robin-style format. He defeated Duke's Logan Fite in a 5-2 decision.

Davidson will now prep for their home opener which will be this coming Thursday (Nov. 14) against Belmont Abbey and St. Andrews at 6:00 and 7:30 p.m.
