Davidson Rolls Past Fordham, 3-0

DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the second straight game, the Davidson Wildcats blanked Fordham University and defeated the Rams 3-0 in Atlantic 10 action on Sunday afternoon.
The 'Cats improve to 13-12 overall and 9-5 in A-10 play with Sunday's results, and sit comfortably in fourth place among the league's standings with two weeks to go in the regular season.
Senior Kayla Davis led the charge with an outstanding performance, recording 12 kills on 14 attempts with zero errors for an .857 attacking percentage. The middle blocker recorded one solo block and one assist, as fellow middle Melanie Tilles also notched 12 kills along with three service aces and four digs.
Freshman Meile Songaila had a match-best 13 kills in addition to 14 digs for her first career double-double. Libero Jordan Hummel also picked up a match-best 16 digs.
Tilles' first ace of the day helped the Wildcats settle into a 9-9 tie in the first set, while Davidson managed to come out on top of a 25-22 frame after Davis connected for five kills on her first six swings of the match.
Davis extended her streak with three more kills in the second, as the 'Cats rattled off a 10-3 run midway through to secure a 25-15 set two victory.
Emma Slusser recorded back-to-back kills to start off set three, allowing Davidson to take a 7-3 early lead. Later, Tilles would serve back-to-back aces that put the Wildcats ahead 18-10 while Kinsey Smith closed out the match with a dump to clinch the 25-17 win.
Overall, Xuan Nguyen and Smith paced the home team with 26 and 20 assists, respectively.
