RICHMOND, Va. – Davidson volleyball's five-match win streak came to a halt on Tuesday evening, after the VCU Rams strung together lengthy scoring runs to defeat the 'Cats in three sets from inside the Seigel Center.
The Rams, who have won their last eight matches, swung .333 at the net while holding the Wildcats to just a .193 attacking percentage.
Jackie Bardin led Davidson's attack with 10 kills, while Kayla Davis added six on just 10 swings.
Five of Bardin's kills came in set one alone, where the 'Cats fell 25-22 to VCU.
The Rams carried that momentum into set two, jumping out to an 8-1 lead before Davis connected with Kinsey Smith to end the run. Eventually, Davidson would pull back in front, 19-17, behind timely blocking from Bardin and Melanie Tilles. After a kill from Anna Withee kept it a one-point game at 22-21, VCU capitalized on Davidson miscues and won the frame 25-23.
Davidson fell behind 8-1 once again in the third, as the Rams stretched their lead out by as many as 13 to secure the match win with a 25-12 set three victory.
