WASHINGTON D.C. – A match-best 22 kills from senior Isabel Decker, including the 1,000th of her career, catapulted the Davidson Wildcats past George Washington in five sets on Sunday afternoon.
After an assist from Xuan Nguyen in the third set, who recently eclipsed her own 2,000 career assists mark, Decker recorded her seventh kill of the match and 1,000th of her career, while igniting the Wildcats into their late comeback.
Despite the Revolutionaries winning sets one and two, the 'Cats bounced back for 25-15, 31-29 and 15-4 victories in the third, fourth and fifth sets, respectively.
As part of Davidson's dominant, 11-point, fifth set victory, libero Jordan Hummel served the 'Cats on a 8-0 run, including one of her two aces on the day. In the same frame, the Wildcats swung at an outstanding .545 clip, led by Anna Withee's 17-kill, .536 attacking percentage performance.
Withee's heroics came up clutch in the fourth set, as the Revolutionaries held a 2-1 match lead and had five different match-points down the stretch, while she halted three go-ahead points with a kill from the right side.
On the defensive end, Hummel led the match with 29 digs, while Decker picked up 13 digs of her own and Nguyen added 22 assists and 10 digs for a double-double.
Freshman setter Kinsey Smith was one dig shy of a double-double with her 26 assists and nine digs, and fellow classmate Meile Songaila picked up nine kills and 15 digs of her own.
