HAMPTON, Va. — Davidson swimmers and divers combined for nine event wins, including two by Andrew Schou, to highlight the first day of the two-day Richmond Duals Friday at the Hampton Aquaplex.
The men's event includes a two-day, head-to-head matchup between Davidson and George Mason, while four women's teams — Davidson, Duquesne, George Mason and Richmond — squared off in an invitational-style meet Friday.
"We had a great day of competition," said coach John Young. "The format for this one was a little different than past years; using invitational scoring made every performance count. And we saw lots of great ones. We'll follow it up with a couple duals with George Mason in the morning, which should be fun and fast."
On Friday, Schou swam first in the 50 breast (25.96) and 200 breast (2:07.56) and also joined Jeremy Kemp, Miles Charles and Dylan Felt on the winning 400 medley relay (3:22.01).
Charles added a win in the 50 fly (22.59), while Felt won the 500 free (4:35.68). The Wildcats went 1-2-3 in the 200 fly that Fletcher Smith won in 1:52.37, and Guil Ware led a 1-2 Wildcat finish in the 50 free with a time of 21.65.
For the Davidson women, Anna Newman won the 50 breast in 30.15, and Elle Jacobsen won 3-meter diving (267.30).
In the four-team event, the Wildcat women also got second-place finishes from Ginny Thorsen (500 free) and Jacobsen (1M diving) and third-place finishes from Newman (200 breast), Addison Constantinides (100 free), Cynthia Huang (400 IM) and Annica Valmassei (1M diving).
