DAVIDSON, N.C. – Led by a pair of 14-kill performances from Jackie Bardin and Elena Garcia-Guerrios, the Davidson volleyball team downed Appalachian State 3-1 inside Belk Arena on Thursday night.

As a team, the Wildcats recorded their second-best offensive effort of the season, swinging .340 and combining for 64 kills. Davidson held the Mountaineers to a .194 clip at the net, while producing six total team blocks, as App State dropped its first game of the season.

In addition to Bardin and Garcia-Guerrios' efforts, Sola Omonije and Emma Slusser added 10 kills apiece, while Kayla Davis shared three block assists and a solo stuff.

Davidson jumped out to a 6-1 run in set one, carrying its largest lead of the frame at 17-11, after Bardin and Omonije combined for a knock-down block at the net. With three-straight kills from Bardin, Mia Compas and Garcia-Guerrios, the Wildcats pulled ahead to a 21-12 advantage and ultimately closed out the 25-18 victory.

App State bounced back in the second, taking its first lead of the day with a one-point margin at 6-5. With 11 tie scores in the frame, and five lead changes, the Mountaineers finally broke through with a two-point lead, 16-14, after a solo stuff and service ace from Maya Winterhoff. While the Wildcats pulled ahead late, 20-19, App responded with three-straight to ice the match with a 25-23 victory.

The 'Cats cruised to the four-set victory after hitting above .370 in the final two sets of play. A block from Compas and Davis gave the Wildcats a 6-5 lead in the third, while Garcia-Guerrios served three-straight aces to all but put the game out of reach. In the final frame, libero Bella Brady aced the Mountaineers to give Davidson a 5-1 lead, followed by a strike from Jessie Doyal along with a block and kill from Compas to seal the deal with a 3-1 win.
