Wildcats Suffer First A-10 Defeat, Fall to Richmond

RICHMOND, Va.  — Despite winning the top three singles spots, Davidson fell short Saturday morning with a 4-3 setback at Richmond in an Atlantic 10 men's tennis match at Westhampton Courts.

The Wildcats dropped to 11-5 overall and 4-1 in league matches, while Richmond moved to 10-4 (2-1 A-10) on the year.

The match came down to No. 6 singles where Thomas Mason dropped a hard-fought three-set decision to Campbell Erwin by the scores of 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.

Earning the three team points was Axel Fries, Yash Parikh and Sam Kavarana at the first three singles positions. Fries pulled out a three-set match with an impressive third-set score of 6-0 to win 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

Parikh reached the double-digit win mark after a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 2 to improve to 10-4 overall with a 9-4 record at No. 2. The sophomore is also 4-1 in league matches.

Also reaching the 10-win mark was Kavarana at No. 3 when he scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory to run his season record to 10-3 and remained perfect in A-10 matches at 4-0.

Davidson caps the weekend off with a trip to Radford tomorrow for a 1 p.m. match.
