Wrestling splits with UNCP and No. 8 NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – Freshman Kyle Gorant went 2-0 in a pair of bouts at the Wolfpack Duals Saturday at North Carolina State University.
Gorant, a 141-pound rookie, opened the day with his fourth fall in six matches, pinning the Wolfpack's Charlie Lenox in the third period. The Coopersburg, Pa., native returned to defeat Ronnie Pietro of UNC Pembroke by major decision, 15-2.
Davidson bounced back from a tough 47-6 defeat at the hands of nationally ranked No. 8 NC State to beat Pembroke, 31-17.
After falling in 4 of 5 bouts to open the Pembroke dual, the Wildcats rattled off four wins beginning with a Tony Palumbo, 3-2 decision, at 157 pounds. Hunter Costa (165) and Conor Fenn (184) each pinned their Braves opponent to open a 24-15 Wildcat lead. Freshman heavyweight Mitchell Trigg finished off the match with his second pin of the young season.
With the split, Davidson begins the season 2-1 in duals.
The Wildcats return to the mats tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 18 for the Wolfpack Open hosted by NC State.
