Davidson Starts Road Trip With 4-0 Win at Radford

BLACKSBURG, Va.  — The Davidson men's tennis team began their four-match road trip with a 4-0 win against Radford Saturday afternoon on the campus of Virginia Tech in a neutral site match.

The Wildcats ran their record to an impressive 9-2 mark on the year, while sending the Highlanders to 1-4. It was the 'Cats' third win in the all-time series, as both teams were playing each other for the first time since 2010.

For the ninth time, Davidson started the match with a 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point. The top two teams earned the point with wins of 6-4 and 6-1. At No. 1, J.B. Gough and Axel Fries ran their record to a team-best 8-3 with their second straight win, while Jack Riazzi and Shamael Chaudhry ran their mark to 6-2 at No. 2.

Finishing off the win was the trio of Gough, Artem Khrapko and David Hager at No . 4, 3 and 2 singles, respectively. Gough tallied a 6-1, 7-5 decision to see his record run to 7-2 on the year.

Khrapko gave up just two games in each set for a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3, where he moved to 6-2. Hager tied for the team-lead with his ninth triumph of the season in 10 matches by scoring a 6-4, 6-4 win. All nine of his wins have come at No. 2.

Davidson finishes the weekend against host VCU in Richmond, Va., Sunday in an Atlantic 10 match.
