Wrestling Suffers Setbacks to Appalachian State and Sacred Heart In Tri-Meet Action

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Wildcat wrestling team fell in a pair to nationally ranked No. 23 Appalachian State and Sacred Heart in a tri-meet Saturday at Belk Arena.
Davidson opened the day with a tough 43-3 setback to the Mountaineers and were later downed by SHU, 27-11.
In the opening match, Tony Palumbo moved to 8-3 on the season with a thrilling, multiple overtime decision over App State's Gavin Londoff. The two squared off until Palumbo was able to break the three-all tie and claim a hard-fought 4-3 decision.
The Mountaineers won with ease, but not without resistance from Dustin Runzo, Konner Pritchard and Will Cooley. Each battled in tight, losing decisions.
Davidson got off to a fast start against Sacred Heart as Camden Bertucci pinned his opponent in just 1:47 to get his squad off to a quick 6-0 edge. The fall is his first of the season and moves him to 2-1 overall.
The Pioneers claimed the next three bout victories before Aidan Conroy earned a 3-1 win in the 157-pound class. The Wildcats did not see another hand raised until the final match of the day when Cooley claimed a late decision, 3-2.
Fighting hard mid-match was 'Cat Hunter Costa who found himself down 7-1, but prevented further damage and a possible major decision by earning an escape and a takedown for a 7-4 decision loss.
Davidson finishes up the first semester of action with a trip to Limestone Tuesday, Dec. 6. The first bout is slated for 7 p.m.
