DAVIDSON, N.C.  â€” The Davidson men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision in their last regular season match to College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon during Senior Day at the Covington Tennis Courts.

The senior trio of Robert Lightbourn, Connor Evins and Ethan Kallick were playing their final home matches of their careers for the 'Cats (5-17).

CofC, a former SoCon-foe for Davidson, spoiled it for the seniors as it moved to 16-5 overall and pushed its win streak to five straight to close out the regular season.

The duo of Lightbourn and Evins opened the match with an 8-3 defeat at No. 1 doubles, while Kallick also fell 8-3 with teammate Evan Watkins at No. 2. The Wildcat duo of Alex Howard and Zack Zapatero won their first together by the score of 8-5.

Watkins was the lone 'Cat to score a singles point on the afternoon. The sophomore won his fourth match of the year with a third-set super tie-breaker. With the team match decided, Watkins and the Cougars' Charlie Ghriskey played a super tie-breaker to determine the winner after both players split their first two sets, 6-3 and 7-5. Watkins prevailed with a 10-6 win at No. 5.

Also going to a third-set super tie-breaker was Evins after he dropped his first set, 6-4, and then came back for a 7-5 win in the second set. The senior battled to the end, before falling in a close 10-8 decision.

Lightbourn played a first-set tie-breaker, but lost it, and then was defeated 6-4 in the second set at No. 2. Fellow classmate Kallick moved up to No. 1 singles for the first time in his career, but came out on the wrong end of a 6-3, 6-4 match to Brice Allanic.

Davidson now gears up for its final run in the Southern Conference Tournament next week, April 16-19, in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Wildcats move to the Atlantic 10 next year.
