Patrick, Elias Win as Wildcats Fall to App. State

BOONE, N.C. – Scott Patrick and Anthony Elias were victorious as the Davidson wrestling team fell to in-state foe Appalachian State, 35-7, in SoCon action Sunday afternoon.
After missing the previous two matches, Patrick came back to dominate with a 9-3 win over the Mountaineers' Dominick Vetell at 184 pounds. Elias also earned a strong win, coming away with an 18-9 major decision over Vito Pasone in the 133-pound bout.
The Wildcats found themselves in an early 14-0 hole, as Dan Hagemann (157) lost a 6-2 decision to Aaron Scott and Patrick Devlin lost a 15-0 tech. fall at 7:00 to Zack Strickland at 165. Davidson was also forced to forfeit the 174-pound bout and later forfeited at 125 pounds as well.
Following Elias' win, James McCord lost a close 6-3 battle at 141 pounds to Javon Johnson. Kevin Birmingham suffered his first SoCon loss of the season, dropping a 10-7 decision to No. 7/11 Dylan Cottrell at 149 pounds.
The Wildcats will wrap up regular season action next Sunday when they return to Boone for a neutral-site match up with SIUE at 1 p.m.
